Les Roberts (Mr Les)  (Principal Eb Bass)

Mr Les joined the band in 2000. His list of former bands reads like a Who's Who, with a pedigree starting from the age of ten with RNVR band in Birkenhead. Subsequent bands (along with playing other instruments) included the RAF Band Stoke Heath, The Birkenhead Transport Silver Band, The Oughterside Band in Cumbria and The Border Regiment Band in Carlisle. Oh, and he had a short stint on baritone with The Llangollen Band! Phew! What a musical heritage!

Mr Les is Head Tutor of our junior band and over the last eight years has seen many of his fledgling prodigies make the leap into the main band. His work with these youngsters is unstinting and is propelling us to make further advancements with our recruitment drive. To his credit Mr Les has never lost a junior player due to his awful jokes.

Mr Les has now retired and fills his time gardening, researching genealogy on the computer (he recently discovered a whole family that he didn't know that he had - he has recently added another generation!) and sheep dog trials, owning two dogs of his own.

Married to the ever faithful Barbara, stalwart of every band rehearsal supplying the tea and yummy biscuits, they have four children and eleven grandchildren between them and reside in St. Martins.
