Simon Griffiths (Musical Director)

Simon joined the band in 1970 at the tender age of 10, not long after its reformation, under the tutorage of the late Fred Perry and under the baton of world renowned conductor Ted Gray. Simon quickly rose through the ranks with his inborn talent to play brass and soon found himself as principal cornet player, a role he holds to this day as well as securing his position of Musical Director in 2004. In the meantime, during the hedonistic late '70's, Simon found the time to be a long haired drummer with the club band Flair (there are pictures if you are prepared to pay!), a band renowned within the northwest touring circuit, a session drummer with bands such as Tennis and La La Lapla, who all cut records in the studio, and in later years as manager to the girl band Splash.
As well as being employed as an operations manager for Royal Mail, Simon is also a leading fire-fighter with Shropshire Fire & Rescue Service, where he has served for the last 30 years.
As well as playing the cornet and drums, Simon's other instruments include the self-taught piano, and his pastimes include gardening, caravan holidays, and his love of music, especially his first love, Whitchurch Band. (apart from his wife Sharon of course!)
Simon is 48 years old and has been married to Sharon for 26 years. He has two children, Kelly and Helen, two grandchildren Oliver and Charlie, and lives in Whitchurch.
