Junior Band

Whitchurch Band has its own Junior section where we teach children how to play brass instruments. Our Head Tutor is Mr Les Roberts (Mr Les) who works to help the newcomers take up an instrument. The lessons only cost £1 a week (this is excellent value for money - most junior music lessons cost ten times this much!) and the money raised by the weekly funds is used to buy new music and instruments. The lessons are on a Tuesday night from 6pm - 7pm. Mr Les carries out an informal band practice which is where all the members of the Junior band play different parts and try to play as a band, whatever their ability or experience.

Workshops

Future developments within the band will see the introduction of workshops at local schools, where members of the band will visit with a selection of instruments for a fun and informal introduction into brass band music with the children. These workshops promise to be informative, and will encourage the children to have a go.

Unfortunately Whitchurch Band does not offer intermediary lessons for adults at present. These lessons are designed for children only. Age limit? We can all be children at heart, but the bar has been set at 15 years and under. If you don't qualify, don't despair (you won't have to suffer Mr Les's awful jokes). Whatever your age, if you want to learn an instrument (playing one is the most satisfying thing in the world) take some lessons then call and meet us for a cup of tea and some advice.
